Identity theft can be a horrific experience, and attempting to get your life back the way it was can be time-consuming and frustrating. We help people who have been victimized by identity theft with their credit issues. We are not credit repair attorneys, but we can help you with your credit issues.

Identity theft victims may discover the theft when they examine their credit report after having their application for credit turned down, or by prudently examining their credit report every year. In some cases, they will notice fraudulent accounts opened in their name and credit card fraud, either for a credit card they never obtained or for purchases they never made. Often ID Theft Victims find out they are victims when they are sued or when they start getting harassed by abusive debt collectors.

Who Can Be A Victim of Identity Theft?

The short answer is anyone. All an identity theft needs to open an account is someone's basic identifying information, such as, name, address, date of birth and social security number. We have helped many individuals with credit issues resulting from identity theft. Unfortunately, under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, a debt that was never yours is difficult to prove. However, there are steps you should take, including filling out an identity theft fraud affidavit, which we have provided online, and contacting the police to let them know of the identity theft and obtain a police report.

Once you have completed these tasks, we recommend you consult an attorney for assistance in navigating the legal quagmire associated with credit issues arising as a result of identity theft.
